GHOOMAR DANCE
Quintessentially Rajasthani, Ghoomar is perhaps the most popular folk dance in the
country. Introduced by the Bhil tribe, this dance form was adopted the royal Rajasthani communities. It
is performed by women on different events and festivals like Teej, Holi etc. Traditional outfits are
worn by the women. The beauty of Ghoomar lies in its graceful movements like spinning around, beating
palms, and swaying hands with the traditional songs. This is another of the Bhil tribe’s many dance forms
and is performed during the festival of colors - Holi. This is one of those performances where both men
and women take part. This Holi dance is performed only by men. This form is known as Geendad in
Shekhawati and Dandia Gair in Jodhpur.
